hi everyone , i have hp dv9580us and i would like to install win-xp-64bit , i have 4GB ram installed and i would like to use all of them ,
32bit system only support up to 3GB ram , do you have any idea how to install win xp 64 and what is the sata driver for it and where can i find the rest of the drivers , thank you
-
you can of course use xp 64, but if you like the hibernation mode you will experience a little downside.
microsoft has not made it possible to use hibernation mode with more than 4 GB of physical adress space. so if you like to use hibernation you need to reduce your systems memory manually back to 4GB ( 4 GB switch in boot.ini).
i did do the same and have made two startup options for xp64:
- one with hibernation, systems physical adress space is limited to 4GB, basicly the same amount of memory as in xp32
- the second without hibernation, but with the full amount of memory.
so i can at least decide if i need the extra memory or rather like to have hibernation working.
you should consider this little downside. it´s not too much of a problem, but still a little frustrating. -
Here's info on slipstreaming the SATA drivers into the XP install disk. If you take a look at the top of the HP forums, there are stickies that address common problems and a lot of great advice.
