Hyper Threading tricks the OS into thinking there are 2 cpu's in the computer. Then the OS can load muitiple threads and allows the cpu to use more of its potential instead of executing sequentialy. Most software currently is not designed to get this benifit but in the future it could be more useful. On HP and Compaq notebooks it is enabled from the factory and can't be disabled.
