My employer issued me an nc6220, which I am taking home on a regular basis and using as my personal computer also at least until I decide on my next one.

It has the following specs: 1.6 ghz Pentium M, 14" XGA, 512MB PC2 3200 - 333 RAM on one card under the keyboard, 40 GB hard drive, CD-R/DVD combo drive and bluetooth.

I've taken a look under the back panels and found the slot for the second RAM chip. The only laptop I had here was DDR 2700 RAM and it didn't seem to quite fit the slot, so I'm assuming what I have now is DDR2. (Note: I consider 512 to be barely enough to run Windows and it's definitely not enough to do my job... let alone do my job with AIM and iTunes running while... you get the idea). So what can I get, what should I get for RAM options.

Secondly, the thing has bluetooth, but not wi-fi? WTF? Someone in the office said that it had wi-fi but it had to be enabled. Under the RAM slot, there are what look like dip switches with little solder marks on them. Surely this isn't what he meant? I wasn't able to find another compartment that looked like it may house a wi-fi card--can anyone point me where to look?

What else do I need to know about this laptop?

    Hi rtype,

I own a nc6220 through my employer as well, there is wi-fi, this is for shure.
To activate the wifi, you have to push the button that is located under the screen, above the keyboard, there is kind of a antenna logo on it and it turns blue when you push on it. This is just in case you didn't discovered it yet...

If it is still not working, you should download the driver in the HP web site "HP Wireless Assitant", it activates both Wi-fi and Bluetooth.

In fact, I'm also trying to locate exactly the wifi card "a Intel 2200BG" in my case. I suspect that it's located bellow the wrist-rest, but I don't know how I can take it off the computer. You can check on my post "Access to the mini-PCI card in the HP-Compaq nc6220". If you have some idea, just share it ;).
