set at 700$ plus tax which should equal around 790$, this laptop came out on October 22, 2009.

AMD Turion II Dual Core M500
    2.2 ghz
    4GB DDR2 Ram
    500 GB HDD
ATI RADEON HD 4200 graphics card

i think it's a good one, but what do you guys think??

i was up for intel, but i found out that their graphics card are far far less superior to AMD's though they have faster processors.

my friend said that even if i dont game that much, Intel and AMD's processing speed difference is average and that the big difference with graphics card is why i should go with AMD. would this be true?

plus AMD is cheaper at this time.

so similar processing speeds (?), but a way better graphics card for a cheaper price in total. AMD sounds good then.

by the way this laptop will be for general use. like whatever i do on a desktop, such as homework, games, intense internet browsing, forum, youtube, etc.

Very similar processing speed now that the Turion II is out. For an integrated graphics notebook that's a very good configuration, definitely the best integrated GPU out there. If you're into gaming you might try to find a similar dv6 that has a Radeon 4530 or 4650 dedicated GPU but that's more $$$ and will have less battery life.

The newest AMD chips do seem to be much more competitive, in terms of performance.

Here's a review of a dv4-2045dx, which has the AMD Turion II M500 processor, 4GB RAM and ATI HD 4200 graphics. It's rated as "Very Good" by Cnet and holds up quite well in the various tests- LINK

im glad they do hold up more because i read a '07 article stating that the athlons were getting kind of old with new core duos coming out back then

heyy thanks for the link, i wanted to look for a reeview of the processor, but if there's a review with the same graphics card as this one, that's better! tyvmtyvm

The dv6 you originally posted should perform very closely the the dv4 in the review I linked above. The dv4 has a 7200rpm hard drive, while the dv6 has a standard 5400rpm drive. But that shouldn't only impact boot times and apps loading by a second or two, on average. The M500 and HD 4200 graphics card work very well together. And battery life, while not quite up to Intel levels, is improved over the previous Turion chips by quite a bit!

but if you want to game it isn't so great... the DV6 with the core 2 duo and 4650 DDR3 is great...

    Joseph,
If I'm not mistaking, FUTURESHOP sells the same DV6 lappy also in a Turion II Ultra M640/4650 1GDDR3 configuration for $999.99.

If money is a big concern, you can go with the one you first mentionned, but the M640/4650 is a decent gaming platform. Hopefully it doesn'r run as warm as my Turion Ultra Zm-82.

Now that the Turion II is out, AMD finally has something to compete with Core 2 Duo. On the thermal side of things, I dunno, too new ,not enough info!

@sean743, thanks for the input, yeah im ready to face that fact lol...
intel + ati radeon is a possibility, but for now, idts..

@exercise, thanks also for the input, and yeah i've seen that laptop lol.
300$ for higher ghz + 1 more mb in l2 cache, with better gfx card sounds good, but the price just takes me down.

lol im glad that amd has sometihng to compare finally!
ugh the m640 does sound pleasing, just not the price lol...

    wow comes with blu ray?
    danggg

Too bad it's over your budget, cause I bought the laptop in SIG this July and paid $999.99 for it (same shell), with the CPU that is maybe 20% slower, a 5400 RPM HDD and NO bluray!
