i just want a basic black laptop, but hp seems to think people want this ugly circles Espresso design on the lid and palmrest. it's the only thing holding me back from spending $700 on the dv6t.

For the past 2-3 years, all HP consumer-line models have had a "special" design on them.

Well, not really.
In regards to the 14.1in laptops, and thus the others...
The original DV2000 didn't and the updated versions only had this very faint circular imprint that you had to strain to see.
Then the successor, the DV4, also didn't, if you remember it was just silver/black. Then they updated it to the espresso/moonlight.
So basically, the first generation update is usually a simple design and then they throw in the special imprints/designs on the update/revision.
I would expect HP to update their laptop line around the Win7 and new Intel chips release.... whenever they do release their new laptops, you can pretty much be sure they won't have any special imprints on them as they save those for the revisions. -
the original dv6t-1000 models were black and silver... there is an "imprint" finish that's you cant really even see, and it's consistent around the entire unit.

get a hp business notebook.
- plain black/grey design
- far better overall quality (eg. hp elitebooks' duracase)
- far better hardware components > top-of-the-line business performance, also very good gaming performance on certain models
- excellent service, especially compared to the consumer service
the new models should come around the launch time of win7, or maybe a bit later, ie. christmas time -
Or get an IBM... Oh wait, since they changed names they don't make real business laptops anymore.
The espresso finish doesn't bother me... My DV9700 has it, but it's quite faint. My DV5 just has these tiny little squares, there's no "special" design on it.
is HP coming out with new laptops or designs soon? Espresso designs are really ugly
