Hello,
Is my computer overheating? I have an HP DV9500t with an Intel T7700 Core2 Duo @ 2.4Ghz, nvidia GeForce 8600M, and two 7200rpm 120 Gig Hard Disks.
While my computer is idling just sitting there on the desktop my temperatures are as follows:
CPU0: 45C
CPU1: 50C
GPU: 70C
HD0: 61C
HD1: N/A (no sensor but probably same as HD0)
I know i've got a lot of equipment in my 17" notebook but still it seems to be running hot. I was wondering if this is the norm for similar configurations? I know about the overheating battery recall and my laptop battery was not one of the ones affected. I also know about problems with the solder on nvidia cards. i havent had any display or stability issues. the only symptom i have is hotcrotch.
Thanks in advance,
nhasian

The GPU looks like overheating and so does the HDD.

The GPU is a little hot for idling - but still safe. My 8600M GT (DDR3) usually idles at 58-68. The CPU is not overly hot - some Macs idle at 65(ish)! The HDD however is overheating badly and should be looked at, it should be no higher that 45-50 tops at idling. Get HP to have a look.
Hope this helped!

Get a Notebook cooler asap. for sure, nvidia GeForce 8600M have known problems and high faliure rates!!! check my sign

Update your BIOS and Nvidia driver to the latest version.
HP has "improve" fan-control algorithm since BIOS F51.
At least it will "prevent" the famous failure of GeForce 8600M -

Open up yourlaptop and replace the thermal paste. I dropped temperatures on my brothers dv6500z 20*C by doing it.

Wow that sounds pretty scarey. Are there instructions on how to do that? I'll bet my dv9500 is laid out the same as your dv6500.

you laptop still in warranty ? if you open up your laptop will void the warranty isnt it ??

HP was very quick about fixing my laptop! I shipped it out Thursday, and received the repaired laptop Wednesday. Thats a really fast turn around time. I'm really happy. Even though they wiped both of my drives... i backed up my drives before sending it for repair. They replaced my auxiliary fan, motherboard, ram, and touchpad. Now my temperatures are:
CPU0: 37C
CPU1: 44C
GPU: 60C
Much better than before
is my HP DV9500t overheating? CPU 50C GPU 70C
