    i bought this hp dv5293 laptop a week ago and havent used it much since now i started hearing these screeching sounds while instaling on the hard drive i also get it while running normal tsks...do you think there is sumthing wrong with my laptop?if so any suggestions will be truly appreciated

    Definitely sounds like a bad disk. I'd take it back or get a new HDD under the warranty.

    Most HD manufacturers have diagnostic programs you can download. Get the one from your drive's manufacturer and see what it says. It'll probably confirm that the drive is bad. Or just send it back, but it's nice to have confirmation that you're hearing the HD and not something else, improbable as that may be.

    From the HD manufacturer's website. You can usually figure out who made your HD by looking at its Device Manager entry. Google the drive model # if you need help deciphering it. Models that start with ST are Seagate, etc.
