you can connect that laptop to a network. share a cd drive on one of the PC's on that network.

then from the laptop, you'd use a network boot disk, boot up with the cd, give it an ip address. once at the commany prompt, map to the shared cd drive and run setup from there.

Since that laptop does not have a cd drive, a bootable cd is out of the question. Instead a bootable usb stick with necessary network drivers could be used.

I think it should also be possible to boot from usb stick that has windows install files but right now I dont have a link for that. All the guides I've found today include usb cd/dvd drive.

You can get XP drivers from http://www.hp2133guide.com/hp-2133-mini-note-drivers/

^ LOL - sorry, it completely skipped my mind he didnt have a cd drive! hah! but you're right - he can definitely make a 1 or 2gb usb flash drive into a bootable windows installation point. just scour the net and you'll find tons of directions on doing it.

you can still use the network boot option - just "burn" the boot disk software onto the usb flash drive, boot from it, assign an ip address, map to the shared cd drive and so on.

    Folks,

I just bought my wife a Dell XPS M1530 and followed a tutorial here on this site for upgrading it to XP. It went swimmingly well and the machine runs just great. This is in stark contrast to some Toshiba's and Sony's I've fooled with. I have a Vista machine and simply don't need the headache of Microsoft's newest version of ME on anything more than that one I use for testing...

What I would like to know are:

1- How did the upgrade go for you, any tricks?
2- How is the performance of the machine with XP Pro on it?

Thanks in advance for your assistance with these questions.

    Phil
