The keyboard and touchpad do not work while trying to login to windows. It works when booting up and I can hit enter to try and get into safe mode, but when I can't actually get in because I can't sign in to windows.

I called up HP tech support and they make me go through a system recovery and everything works when it's restored to the original factory settings and everything is wiped. The problem is I've had to do this 5 times over within 8 months of having bought the laptop. The problem appears to be on a software level so HP doesn't really care how it happened so long as it works if they wipe everything out.

I'd like to know what types of software or files can result in corrupting the OS and lead to the touchpad and keyboard not functioning so that I can personally prevent this problem in the future.
