I've read a lot of complaints with regards to the keyboard problems with the hp dv5000 and dv8000 series. I have been lucky so far with my dv5220ca with the keyboard. But I am curious if anyone knows if the compaqs have the same keyboard issues, in particular the v3000 series?

No idea. I have no problem with my keyboard in my DV4000 either.

Thanks for the input so far. I've been looking around, and reading a lot and have yet to find anything. I would assume that since they are the same company that there is the possibility of the same problems occuring. I have read of major keyboard problems that users have encountered such a the keyboard not functioning at all. Mind you no matter where you look or which company you're reading about you are bound to find a lot of problems. I'm just glad that so far i have been quite fortunate in not having any glitches with my hp....hope that continues....

I have a Compaq Presario V5270NR notebook, the problems with the keyboard sound similar to problems others are having with the HP dv8000 series. Frequently it doesn't type a key I strike & I have to forcefully re-strike multiple times, space bar sometimes doesn't make a space. But the main problem is that it starts typing in all caps. Not only that, it makes many other functions - even things as simple as backspacing - impossible. One suggestion I found online is to hold the NumLock for 5 seconds - that doesn't do anything. Sometimes I hit a bunch of function keys randomly & that gets it back to normal. But most of the time I have to shut it down and re-boot. It's incredibly annoying and I've never experienced anything like this before. It has other weird things going on too; the Task Manager has suddenly lost its top! There's no longer any tabs on top of the Task Manager at all - and no way to close it once I resolve whatever I'm trying to fix (which is usually the problem of it getting stuck trying to open PDF's).
I bought the extended warranty and I'm considering taking it back but I wanted to know first if this is a common problem with this Compaq series. If so, I'd just be trading for another set of problems. -
To 'unlock' the all upper case characters problem, and other odd keyboard actions, just double-click the shift key.
No idea why this problem happens !!! but the double click on the shift key works all the time for me.
This does not correct the problem of keys not responding - apparently at random.
I have a Presario 5115, so the problem exists with several HP/Compaq models. -
If you're looking at the V3000 series, keep in mind that HP has discontinued that model (as least in the US), unfortunately.
