I have a dv6870us and the keyboard was replaced by HP due to defective key.
The new keyboard is visually the same as the original.
Key action lacks cushion and is noisy (clicky) when typing when the keys bottom out.
Original keyboard was better IMO than the replacement as it had better cushion and travel (firmer) and was much quieter when typing as the keys did not click when typing.

    Questions-
    1. For dv6700 series owners, how is your keyboard?

    2. Do you think HP would replace the keyboard with one that is not equal to the original? PN is 441427-001 for the original. I have not disassembled the notebook to check the part number on this keyboard so I do not know what the PN for the replacement is.

    3. Is it possible that there is a wide variance in keyboard quality/action within a series?

    4. Is there a way to check the part number w/o disassembly of the notebook?

They would most likely be using different suppliers for the keyboards. So, it is quite possible that you got the one from another supplier and that changes the feel of the keys, the sound and the action of the keys. As far as the flex is concerned this would also play a part but I presume that the keyboard is properly fitted and there arent any loose or mising screws.

I have used different HPs of the same series(v3000z) and there is definately a slight difference. I would say its the suppliers that make the biggest difference. This is standard issue amongst laptop manufacturers these days just like every other component they are also contracted out to differnet companies.

BTW(sometimes) there will be a label on the bottom of the keybard identifying the OEM.
