Hey guys, I have a dv6000. I order it last year and I have 10 days left of warranty. After installing wacraft III a few days ago, my laptop now shuts down in 3 minutes of start up. I call up HP and did everything they wanted...they said it's a software issue because the hardware test seems ok. So I ordered a $29 recovery disk from them since I don't have one and had to pay that much for rush shipping or else if my warranty runs out, the HP person said I would be in deep $hit. So two hours later...I turn the laptop on and it works fine, even when playing warcraft III for hours. I really don't think this is a software issue, could it?

I brought it to Best Buy today to have everything clean out because that was what I thought too. Contrary to being better, the laptop shuts down in 3 minutes (before I had them clean, it was on for hours in school and no gaming done). Now it stays on and haven't shut down in 2.5 hours. I don't know what the deal is...

Check your memory for errors; bad chip is the best case scenario for you I think ($20 max to buy a new one).
Does it shutdown while on battery?

Run a virus check as well. Overheating generally takes longer unless the unit is damaged really badly.
