Hey yall I currently have an alienware laptop specs in sig. I am thinkin of gettin an envy for the travel factor, I love my aw but its heavy. I am wondering how much gaming performance I will loose, I have a gtx 260m also I have i7 I would be gettin one with i5 430m I am just curious on how much overall ability I will loose, also on the envy could I install my ssd without voiding warranty.

gtx 260m is 10-15% faster than Envy's HD 5830m i believe. the nvidia part also sucks down 3x the watts.

yes you can install SSD, many have (see sig).

not hard. doesn't void warranty IIRC. i wouldn't say it's "really" slim and light, i mean its 15-inch chassis, 5 pounds and 1 inch thick. but it's a lot more portable than most gaming laptops. note that alienware's 11-inch model weighs almost as much (4.5 pound).

Using FRAPS to test the FPS, in 1920x1080 resolution, all settings max detail (enthusiast) I got around 18 avg FPS (min 16 max 22) in Crysis Warhead (32-bit) and Dragon Age Origins (32-bit) I got a range of 29FPS to 620FPS, avg 320FPS (I think that is due to cutscenes).

The warranty is definitely not voided when you upgrade the drive as I did this with a previous laptop and had no problems. Obviously the warranty won't cover any problems with your new drive. For convenience if you image the original drive and backup the image, you can quickly revert to factory condition.

Yeah, I had an M15x, its much slimmer (like 1/2") and lighter (by at least 3lbs). The top and bottom are all solid, I don't know about you but I hated the cheap plastic bottom on the M15X.
