I have a DV2000 series (DV2402CA) notebook computer and the problem is the fan. Is it suppose to be loud? I'm at the library typing away (when the computer is in power saver mode) and the fan kicks in high gear. You can literally here it go off, i find it irritating. Is there a way to silent the fan? (I.e how do you slow down the hard drive more? Is there a program that can slow down the fan? etc..) The notebook isn't even hot or warm and still the fan goes on. Is this common? I have a sony notebook VGN-N series and the fan is ALWAYS silent.

could be its rubbing against something, too much dust in it, or the bearings are shot within the fan itself........you would have to open it up to get a more detailed idea

I just got it like a few weeks ago (too late for store return/exchange)...so is it still necessary to look inside?

No, that will void your warrantee. Are you sure there's even anything wrong with it? How loud is it? What BIOS version are you running?
