I'm assuming that's one with an Intel processor. In that case, you need the SATA driver in the SWSETUP folder.

See the sticky above. Your laptop has a SATA hard drive and since Win XP does not support SATA natively you will have to either slipstream the driver into the Windows installation, use an external floppy or disable SATA support in the BIOS and then install windows. For further info on both these steps follow one of the guides(dv2000t or dv8000t).

This is COMPLETELY UNTRUE. Just go into the BIOS menu by tapping the F10 key when you first start the computer, press the right arrow twice (I think) and disable the Native SATA option. Install windows, then install the SATA drivers for the computer (Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI controller (Mobile ICH7M)). GO back into the BIOS (described above) and re-enable the Native SATA option. I personally know this works since I have reformatted, and I have the dv2000t.

Windows XP just doesn't have drivers for specific aftermarket SATA controllers like JMicron or Silicon Image. The Intel controllers are supported natively though. Just follow szabodabo's advice on how to disable the Native SATA option while you do the XP install and then install the Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI controller driver once you get into Windows. Then go back into the BIOS and re-enable the Native SATA option. The reason you need the driver is that AHCI enables advanced SATA features such as NCQ and hot plug ability.

It does not have the necessary drivers means that it does not have native support.

Ofcourse with the right drivers it will support it.
