I will be going for a new Laptop soon, don't know jack about them, but am more concerned with price than anything else. Could someone please list the following manufacturers in their order of best vs. worst.

    Acer
    HP Compaq
    Dell
    IBM
    Fujitsu - Siemens
    Sony
    Toshiba

Also, could you tell me which is better; the centrino or the pentium 4 processor, I will not be using it for travelling, etc. just for keeping it on my desktop. Also is Intel's HT technology all that it's hyped up to be, or is it just a gimmick?
    Thanks in advance

Asking which is better is such a broad catagory, better in what area? Quality? Value? Customer Service?

P.S. as for HT: people were heaving a hard time figuring out whether enabling/disabling the HT changes anything. I guess, that may answer your question.

Pentium HT CPU will drain a lot of power, your battery life will be shorter and heat hotter. Athlons or mobile pentiums (Dothans) are the way to go in a laptop.
