I'm trying to reformat my dv2000t following the guides found on this forum.. I downloaded nlite and have followed the steps, but I'm stuck and cannot move on further. I'm trying to mount the SATA drivers but the SATA file that i downloaded from hp's website is not recognized. Nlite is only accepting .inf files... is there a way to convert the file i downloaded from hp to a .inf?

i've looked through the sticky... but it seems to be directed towards the 2500/6500/9500t series.

what kind of file do you have ? is it an *.exe file ?
if so you will have to extract the *.inf files from the exe to have them slipstreamed to your cd.
you can either extract the files by double clicking the exe. it will then extract to a specific folder.( probably here c:\swsetup\xxxxxx) after the files have been extracted you can cancel the installation.
Or you can extract the files by winrar.
hope it helps -
yes i have a .exe file.. So winrar will convert it to .inf? I'll try that out.

anyone else have suggestions? I really only need help with this .inf part.. and i'll be done. I no longer have my swsetup folder... so I downloaded the SATA drivers from hp, but nlite does not recognize the .exe when trying to mount the driver onto my xp cd. How can i go around this issue..

have you actually read what i´ve written ?
there are two ways to get the files inside this "self-extracting" archive :
1. you start the *.exe and the files will be extracted to a specific folder c:/ swsetup/nameofthe*.exe - you can take the files from, here
2. you rightclick the *.exe and if winrar is installed you can extract the files to..... whereever you like them... -
As schoko said, unpack .exe and try to include driver with nLite.
Let's say you have some spXXXXXX.exe file. Open an archiver (WinRAR, 7zip), open the spXXXXXX.exe file, extract it to a folder.
Open nLite, select that you want to include driver, patches, etc., and make the image bootable... next include single driver -> browse for the unpacked driver folder and select one of your .inf files (they may be in a "files" folder in the unpacked folder), when you are prompted which hardware to use, select all.
Once you included one .inf, it should do the thing, so, push some "next"s and make the .iso or burn on cd.
You are done with the install cd, you don't need to press F6 anymore in the setup... your hdd will be recognised and used.
Good luck! -
heres the thing. I downloaded the SATA drivers off of hp's website(sp32478). It comes as a .exe file i beleive. When i extract it... i only get one file(F5flpy32, and it looks like a floppy disc). I would mount that file if i could, but nlite only accepts .inf files... When extracting the .exe... i do not get a .inf file.

ok, you´re absolutely right. i´ve just checked the file, and indeed it´s just a little program, that writes a floppy disk with the desired driver files. if you further extract it you´ll just get a floppy disk image. So no go here.
so you have two options :
1. you create a floppy disk with this program and you get your satadriver
2. actually Hp is not the only source you can get the drivers from. since your notebook is based on a 945GM chipset, you can download the driver from intel.
hope this helps -
oh, yeah, just seen it, the sata driver for your notebook should be this :
Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M)
check at hp if this is correct.
just seen the satadriver for my hp8510p does support the Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller.
this is from my 8510p sata drivers iaahci.inf :
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2653&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) 82801FBM SATA AHCI Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C1&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA AHCI Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C5&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2681&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) 631xESB/632xESB SATA AHCI Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2821&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) 82801HR/HH/HO SATA AHCI Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2829&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2922&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) ICH9 SATA AHCI Controller"
so maybe you wanna download the satadriver for 8510p and extract the driver . -
The driver file floppy images are made with winimage. If you download that and open the file in it, you should be able to extract the files without having to make an actual floppy disc.

I have written a guide on extracting SATA drivers from EXE without Floppy Disk. http://maxeasyguide.blogspot.com/2008/04/extracting-sata-driver-from-their-exe.html
Though it's aimed at intel chipset but I guess it will help.
