hi
My dv5 mute light is always red... I touch it and the sound stops but it keep red. I use Vista Home Premium 32 and I recently installed ASIO4ALL and a external soundcard (even if it's not connected right now).
Anybody can help me?
greets.

take out battery, hold the power button for five seconds,
plug the battery back in, restart your laptop, it then should be fine. -
i'm running it without the battery, and I've already restarted several times, the problem stills there.
add: the light only becomes red after the vista loading screen (just before the log-in screen appears). and then, no matter what I do, it keeps red. -
My light is always white, but it mutes and changes the icon in the taskbar.
-
that's exactly the opposite to my situation
I even uninstalled Quick Launch Buttons and Quick Touch and it keeps working and red!
I found a similar situation here in the forum: post link -
FIXED!
Install the last Quick Launch Buttons software from HP website. -
I have the same problem with my new HDX 18t. Installing the quicklaunch software from the site didn't help me.
-
hmm. today I have the same problem again so I confirm that installing the new software doesn't solve it.
-
try to use battery power and do the previous step as I mentioned.
It should fix the problem since I always have this issue too. -

^ the battery thing works for me too. i dont know why but it works. my gf's dv4 also has similar problems - her wireless button always stays red. doing the battery steps listed above work for some reason...
does anyone know the origin of these steps? or what exactly happens when the battery is removed and power is held for 45 seconds?
i ask simply because im curious. ;-D -
Taking the battery out is like unplugging a regular computer. Holding the power button can sometimes drain some capacitors. Leaving parts of the computer without power completely.
-
thanks, but the battery trick doesn't work for me. I think it's probably something related with software because it only becomes red after vista's boot process.
-
fixed (again I guess lol).
Install the IDT drivers from HP website. -
I hope this will be the driver.
I was there such a problem was solved with this driver ..

hi again.
after installing the latest drivers (sp41698.exe, IDT High-Definition Audio CODEC Driver 6.10.6087.0 C), now I'm getting 50% cpu usage (one entirely core) in stacsv.exe process (IDT PC audio) after touching any of the touch buttons. As I have read online, it seems to be a driver problem. If anyone has a solution please write it here.
Dell also had this problem with the 6.10.6087 IDT drivers: DELL's issue

Now, I only have this problem when I connect my external audio card (M-audio Conectiv). :s

Let me guess, you have Comodo Firewall.
Disable Defence+ on Comodo Firewall.
Defence+ > Advanced > Defence+ Settings > permanently disable Defence+(requires restart)
the Mute button turns white/orange again for me when I found out it was Comodo's fault -
thanks.
yes, I have Comodo Firewall but now, after installing the new driver, I have no problem with the leds, just with the cpu usage. -
My LED status indicator remains red but the mute function works normal.
I have McAfee Firewall as part of the McAfee Security Center. I have not
changed the IDT driver/software because the color of the indicator is of
less an irritant than seeing 50% CPU utilization, even on just one core.
I noticed it only does this when not connected the the LCD TV via HDMI
mute led always red
