My computer>Rightclick>Properties>Advanced System settings>system protection. Then delete all system restore points. Voila your lost space comes back.

Unless you're running out of room for your applications and documents, leave your restore points alone.

    +1

You'll be glad you have some restore points in case one of those program installations decides to go Chernobyl on you.

Can you explain a little bit more about the situation? How much space are you losing? How long have you continued to lose space?

Did you recently install a new Service Pack or OS? For example, when I installed Vista SP2, I gained some space, but eventually it slowly returned to the same amount of space before SP2.

Like the others said, it's most likely due to restore points, but there's always other possibilities.

Temp files , Internet cache , System restore points etc eat up hard drive space... Tune Up Utilities 2010 is a nice program which can help with mainting your laptop so try it out.. It will speed up your laptop too....

By default System Restore, if turned on, is scheduled to create a restore point at every system startup in Task Scheduler. If System Restore is turned on, then disabling this will also save you time at startup.

Task scheduler > Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > SystemRestore > Disable or Enable
