Hi every one i have a few question regarding the nVIDIA GeForce Go 6150. I know it is 128MB since that is what the spec said every where, but i got my DV2125nr with the Turion TL-50 and 1gb of ram, so i was checking the system info an notice that the it is gpu is posting as 256MB, even thought the system shows that it have 960MB. Also i checked the BIOS and it say the same thing. But it say that the GPU memory goes up to 256MB when required, I guess that explain why it is using only 64MB.

Does some one have the same problem or know any thing?? I guess the problem might be a software issue, but i am not sure  .

That is BIOS mis-post the info of Nvidia Turbo cache. Mine is 512M, but XP shows I have 448M, Linux shows I have 256M for GPU. XP actually use only 64 MB and GPU itself match 64MB(I guess so). But Linux rather give more like in BIOS.

So i guess if its just a software problem every should be fine. Because i was not sure since both NVidia and the Bios are showing 256MB. Also a friend of mine have the Intel version of the DV2000 and NVidia is displaying 128MB the right amount of memory information.

Yeah, the 6150 is capable of using 256MB memory but that is only with 2GB of RAM, in any other case, it uses 64MB and the rest is dynamic(use as & when needed).

That's cool, i didn't know that it was capable of using 256MB with the 2GB Ram.
Any way, i know it is using the 64MB since it is posting 960MB of Ram out of 1GB Ram.

Good evening, everyone. Happy New Year. I just registered with this website. This is my first post. I have the dv2120us with an AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-52 1.6GHz processor that I had for two months now. It says on my computer that the graphics card has 256 MB memory. I have 1 GB of RAM.

I bought Flight Simulator X, which was just released in October. Flight Simulator X runs choppy with the highest settings. I had to adjust the settings for better performance. I was thinking of upgrading the RAM to 2 GB. I think that will help a little bit in terms of performance. I also have Flight Simulator 2004, which was the previos version. FS2004 performs flawlessly on this computer. Do you think that adding 2 GB of RAM will help in performance a little bit? I am only a casual gamer. Flight Sim is the only game that I play frequently. In addition, I want to get ready for when Vista get released. I downloaded the Windows Upgrade Advisor and it says that my dv2120us is suitable for Vista Home Premium. I have no problem upgrading the RAM. Thanks once again. Happy New Year.

Vista will run fine on your nb. I have the same setup as yours and while V is more memory intensive than XP, I have no problems to speak of. Typically have about 52% in use.

Flight Sim is another issue. Until you can tell how much memory it's using, and any other apps you usually have running at the same time and their memory requirements, there's no need to grab another gig, unless you want to. The real issue is the graphics card. If I recall correctly, only 64meg is dedicated and the 7200 is not the fastest card in any case. It may just be that FSX is more intensive than the previous version and you'll just have to live with it.

How do you guys find other titles run with the Go6150?

Im interested to see if older stuff like the sims 2 would work on it.

I guess I will have to live with that then, LOL. If anything, I can give this computer away or sell it. But again, I like the webcam and microphone and just keep it since I have a three-year warranty already. I did not intend on buying this computer at first. I looked at the Dell Inspiron E1505 and I came across the dv2120us in a Staples ad and bought the HP. I already had it break on me once. It was an LCD issue, the screen was dim. Luckily, it was a quick fix. But again, it has me thinking whether to keep this computer or give it away. Thanks again.

I know the feeling... im on my third dv6119us... first one had dead pixels and send one ended up cracking on the palmrest and the dang thing hasnt moved off my desk in two weeks. Looked like a screw was over torqued to tight. I dont think of the consumer line of HP's to be of top build quality. My g/fs E1505 feels much better.. much cooler.. battery lasts longer.. I would have gotten one but I work for HP!

    Copyright,

Can you please give me your opinion of the E1505? Any input is greatly appreciated. I will never buy a computer from any store again. I have had two Dells in the past, one desktop and one notebook. I hardly had any issues with these two computers. Plus, my dv2120us notebook runs slow at times for some reason. I looked at the E1705, in addition to the E1505. The only things that I see different between the 1705 and the 1505 are the sizes, weights, screen sizes, and graphics cards. The E1705 is supposed to have a better 256MB graphics card than that of the E1505. I know that this is off-topic. Any input or opinion is appreciated, however. I guess it will be back to Dell for me, LOL.

No, I havent seen any option to change it in the BIOS. In any case it makes little difference to the performance of the 6150 if it had 256MB or 128MB & especially since it is integrated having less usually is better for non gaming use.

    it is right ?

because u did said that it's dynamic (64mb), so the amount of the ram will be increase automatically if the ram is not sufficient (more than 64 mb), and it will hit 256 mb if the graphic card feels needed , right ?
so having dynamic 64 mb ram is better than fixed 256 mb . . .

Will the performance of the video card increase if I upgrade my RAM from 1 GB to 2 GB? I am not a hard-core gamer, however, I play Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Yes. If you have a lot of RAM(2GB) then it really doesnt make much of a difference, but if you have 1GB or less then dynamic is better option.

You wont notice any substantial performance boost. In most cases you are limited by the GPU itself rather than the amount o memory available to it.

I am not sure if this guess is right, but it probably relate to triple buffer option. We just don't know how to turn on triple buffer in XP. In Linux GDM configure, it has user option to control that.

I did a full (clean) install of Vista Ultimate on Thursday.

The initial install was actually pretty quick. I didn't use a stopwatch, but my gut tells me that it was much faster than an XP install.

After my first login I was directed to Windows Update and downloaded a whopping 100MB of drivers & updates including...

    • nVidia 6150 drivers
    • nVidia Hypertransport driver
    • HD Audio Driver
    • Modem Driver
    • Synaptics Driver
    • HP Quick Launch Button driver

After the download, install and obligatory reboot, I found myself looking at my dv2000z running in full Aero. Very nice indeed. That said, the "Vista Experience Index" for my dv2000z was an unimpressive 2.4, which is due almost entirely to the 6150 gpu.

Even in Vista connecting my Logitec bluetooth mouse causes serious issues. It's annoying, but not a show show stopper.

May your installs go as smoothly!
