I was wondering if somebody can tell me how does the screen compare on that laptop to more mainstream laptops, like the dv2700 series, etc? I know that it is non-glossy, but wondering about brightness, contrast, viewing angle, and sharpness... I would appreciate any feedback.

C'mon, anybody? Is this little laptop really so obscure?
-
Are you planning on buying a used notebook? Because the nc2400 has been discontinued and replaced by the 2510p. The 2510p is just like the nc2400, but adds a touchpad and *maybe* an extra USB port (I can't be sure on the latter).
-
Well, the difference between the two is that 2510p has an LED-backlit screen, core 2 duo vs core duo, and the aforementioned touchpad. I have been looking for something really small and cheap, and the nc2400 fits the bill. I don't need it new, it will be a second laptop for travel, with it's great battery life...

Thanks, I read that one already, that's what got me interested in the first place
I actually just ordered it from TigerDirect, they have it for $799.95 NEW, with Core Duo... Can't beat the price...
-
Congratulations! I hope you have the best of luck with your new HP!

Well, I just unpacked it about an hour ago, and playing with it now... I must say, especially considering the price, this little HP is awesome so far! And I'll take its' non-glossy screen over a glossy HP dv-series screen any day, much better and brighter in an office environment

this post comes too late... i'm on my second nc2400 right now.
it was purchased over a year ago (the final release model with vista biz, 1.6ghz centrino duo, 80gb hdd and 1gb ram - upgraded to 2gb shortly after purchase).
my first nc2400 was a performing decently on xp pro (it was 1.2ghz and only 512mb ram which i pushed to 1gb ram). it was work-issued and i enjoyed traveling with it until it got stolen...
i dug out my recovery cds that came with my older nc2400 and downgraded from vista to XP - work requires me to have XP instead of vista. the newer nc2400 handles XP pro terrifically.
a colleague of mine also bought a 1.6ghz nc2400: he ordered a set of ($30) XP recovery cds from HP and downgraded to XP pro also. this was a workaround from having to pay for an additional license.
i don't think the lcd screen is much to marvel about today - but i agree that it's heaps better than the glossy screens on "entertainment" laptops. it does the job, isn't too dim.
for a travel laptop, this is perfect. mine came with an additional power brick and docking station free.
it charges up really quickly (90% fastcharge). pretty damn lightweight. 3 year warranty. TPM encryption. hard disk accelerometer.
the 4-6hr battery life allows me to use it as a portable dvd player on the road too.
it's not gonna be playing any modern games, but for school and work use, i think it's just perfect. it handles all sorts of softwares and networking is a breeze.
if i had to pick at its flaws, i would think the use of a 2.5" hard disk precludes me upgrading to a larger capacity drive due to price. it's just too expensive compared to 3.5" drives...
i workaround it by carring an external hard disk. i also added a transcend 5-in-1 card reader to the pc card slot so i can load memory sticks and sd cards without cables.
the bundling of vista. that one sucks too: vista doesn't run too good unless you turn aero off (partially to do with the slow 2.5" hard disk).
but then again, this notebook wasn't designed to replicate the "ideal" vista experience.
