I just picked up a new nc6230 and it has everything I need in a laptop, however I am a little dissapointed in the display. The vertical viewing angle is extremely low and the backlighting is fairly uneven.
It's not that it's unusable at the off angles, but fonts are not sharp at a very light angle other than head on.
I really want(ed) a SXGA+ or greater display and wanted to stay in the 14" display size which severely limits the options.
I've read alot of posts on other 14" matte displays being less than stellar. Is this common in all 14" sxga+ displays?
Thinking about trying the IBM, but thinking that might be a waste of ALOT of time unless I go 15" flexview. Anyone seen the Fujitsu 14" sxga+ display??

15.4" SXGA+ screen on my zv5000z has viewing angles one can only dream of. From left to right, from top to bottom, it gives crisp, rich in color and very bright image (even after 1 year, brightness is as on day one). I have never seen any LCD being that good, not in stores, not in friend's computers, not even on MACs or Sony notebooks. This is the LCD to kill for!!!
It is not 14".
I also have flexview 14" SXGA LCD (they stopped offering that option recently in T42) in new IMB T42. What to say here? For almost twice the money, this business notebook offers LCD that has killer HORIZONTAL angle (any angle looks without distortion) but VERTICAL angle is simply non-existent. Any vertical deviation makes screen dramatically bad. Impossible find an angle when the top and the bottom look good at the same time. I would prefer the horizontal angle to be that screwed up. The LCD is not very sharp, colors are not very rich. Some black fonts that look truly black on zv5000z, sometimes look clearly grey on T42. It's a good LCD, of course, better than most you see in CircuitCity notebooks,
but not even close to the 15.4" SXGA+ by HP.
I'm lost why only HP managed to offer REALLY good LCD, and quickly phased them out (new zv6000 no longer offer 15.4" WVA SXGA+ screens - incredible, if you ask me) -
Yea my old Compaq presario 27xx sxga+ has a great panel also, but it's 15" and very heavy. Hence my desire for a 14", but I don't want to sacrafice the resolution...
There really is no perfect laptop out there is there...
What other options exist for 14" sxga+? If I have to go 15" I might if I have to, but it's gotta be slim and light. So far the T43(p?) appears to be the smallest and offers flexview.
My wife has a T42 and the size if almost identical to this nc6230. The 6230 is only a little bit deeper.
