I am considering getting either a Dell Latitude 810 or HP nc8230. I think I prefer the nc8230, but I need to verify something:
Is there a way I can run the WXGA(1280 x 800) in 1024 x 768 without getting the stretch effect?
I train software users, and I have to display my desktop on 1024 x 768 LCD Projectors often. (While still using my laptop display for myself, the class is looking at my VGA output on the LCD Projector. )
I hate the way LCDs look when the pixels arent displayed at a 1:1 ratio with the screen resolution. Hopefully there is a way to set the bios/ drivers so that the un-used pixels will just be off (rather than stretching 1024 x 768 across a 1280 X 800 screen).
Please let me know. Thanks!

Yes there is.
Under the control panel for both ATI and Nvidia, there should be an option that allows Centered Output instead of Display Adapter Scaling (which is what your notebook is on right now).

On ATI control panel: Displays -> Panel -> Panel Attributes -> check/uncheck "Scale image to panel size".
