Just curious if anyone has done this with their nc8430 using NHC.
What are your undervolted settings?

6 @ 0.950v
7 @ 0.9625v
8 @ 0.9750v
9 @ 0.9875
10 @ 1.000v
11 @ 1.0125v
12 @ 1.0125v -
I set it to 1.05V at max speed (12x = 2GHz). It lowered my temperature at full load 13 degC down (from 73 to 60C)! My processor ran OK also at 1.0375V (crashed at 1.025V), but I rather used the nearest higher voltage, just to be sure.
What a pity that we can't lower voltage also at the lowest speed. This is reserved only for the LV and ULV versions
What are your temperatures at idle and full load (2 x Prime95)? I suggest to use the Core Temp utility, which seems to measure the temperature most accurately. It can be downloaded here (simple EXE, no installation required).
My results:
idle: ~45C
full load (2 x Prime95): 60C @ 1.05V
CoreDuo T2500 2GHz -
using the Core Temp program instead of NHC gives me better temps. Room temps are 22C.
Idle:
NHC = 55C
Core temp = 46C
Load:
NHC = 70C
Core Temp = 60C
Thanks for the the link to Core Temp -
Core Temp and Everest seem to be making honest temp reports...if you can try out Everest and see if you get the same readings that would be great.

I had it as:
6 @ 0.9500
7 @ 0.9625
8 @ 0.9625
9 @ 0.9750
10 @ 0.9875
11 @ 0.9875
12 @ 1.0000
I've since switched to using RMclock because it's lighter and has more accurate temp. measurement; surprisingly, the voltages listed there are different (they go from 1.062V to 1.262V - same number of steps, but different values) I wonder which one is correct... -
There might be an Intel document that states all the voltages that the C2D run at. Then you'd know which one to trust.

I have just ordered my NC8430 (should arrive Friday) and would like to know/understand how you underclock to get a lower temp.

Well, NHC will allow you to set lower voltages on the CPU. Powerplay can lower the clock speed and voltages on the X1600 to save you from heat as well.
I don't know if ATITool can do the same, but I'm going to guess that it cannot undervolt the X1600 (I'm not sure that PowerPlay does, but it seems like it might).
Anyway, heat on this machine really isn't bad unless you are playing a game...and even then it isn't unbearable. -
I just put up a tiny tutorial for undervolting using RMclock, here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=82809&page=2
