Help me buy a hd :)

I bought a 80GB 7200rpm drive from newegg.com to replace the 100GB 5200rpm one I got with my nc8430. However, I bought the wrong type (Ultra ATA 100 or something) and now I have to return it to newegg. Can someone help me and link me the correct hd I should buy from newegg? I'm looking for a 80GB 7200rpm, $110-140 preferably. Thx!

    Here ya go!

I'm going to guess that you bought a ATA-6 interface hard drive. You need the Sata 150 interface (SATA150 or ATA150).

Thx night! You never fail me. These will definitely fit fine on the nc8430, right? I dont want to return another one :p

BTW, the notebook is GREAT. Your review really made up my mind to buy this, and I'm loving every minute of it. I've always been envious of IBM Thinkpads, but never wanted to shell out their exorbitant prices. This is pretty **** close to having that. I love it.

Also, did you ever get a chance to tighten your hinges? In your review you say you think about it. Because I'm also thinking of tightening these, if it's possible.

It should...it's the right interface and size. Can you post a link to what you bought...like I said I think that was a ATA6 hard drive.

And no...I haven't done that yet. I'm not going to take this baby apart until I have to! Until it gets worse I can easily live with it.

This is from what you bought:
    Seagate Momentus 7200.1 ST980825A 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM

    Ultra ATA100 != SATA150
You'll be fine with the new drive. I just wanted to double check!

Hey night, could you please tell me about the text on you screen (WSXGA+) is it small for someone who use it for programing?
    thanks in advance.

Dunno about night, but I program quite a bit in C#, and I actually really like the screen resolution. I've only had it one day so I can't say for sure, but I was very apprehensive to leave the 1920x1200 resolution I have on my dell laptop. Fortunately, it seems like the slightly reduced resolution on the nc8430 actually makes it easier to work.

Oh yeah...1680x1050 is happy for programming. Lets you fit a lot of code on the screen, while not making the text too small for my eyes!

Did you get your new (correct) hd yet?

[Don't forget to make your system DVD's before you pull the original HD.]

I also have the WSXGA+ wide viewing angle screen and haven't had any regrets in spending the extra $$$ for it.

Why are your hinges loose so soon? your two posts are the first I've read stating that they were loose.... Mine are very tight but hen it's only 2 months old.

Haven't gotten the HD yet. Newegg is taking its sweet time with this order (been at step 3 for 2 days). Probably tuesday or wednesday next week.

My hinges arent loose :) The thing is I'm a little crazy when it comes to hinges since my previous laptop is a dell and that thing sways with the breeze, and I HATE it. The nc8430 is really sturdy, but not as tight as a T60 or other lenovos, which actually take brute strength to open. I am completely satisfied with the nc8430's hinges, but I would still love to tighten them up to the point where I need a crowbar to open the thing :p
