I am wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to install an internal bluetooth module in the HP nc8430 if it does not come with one. I know that with some notebooks, such as the dell e1505, it is easy to do while others it is not.

I ask because I'm looking to buy an nc8430 with a 1200x800 screen (bad eyes) and in order to save money I will buy a cheapo pre configured model from a reseller and upgrade the components over time. However, those cheap models do not come with bluetooth, while everything else they lack can be easily upgraded.

I would just custom configure it on the HP website, but there seems to be an extra 400-500 dollars over reseller costs tacked on when one creates a custom configuration.

    Thanks in advance

I'm fairly certain that all of the preconfigured models of the nc8430 have BT installed already...you might want to double check that. I could be wrong though.

The Custom To Order notebooks can have that added for $29...better to do it at purchase time rather than aftermarket.

To answer the original question though: check with HP's service manuals on the nc8430. I think you'd have to buy the part from HP, but it should be possible.

Not ALL of them, especially not those with 1200x800. For some reason there is a big difference between the cost of a pre-configured model sold though a reseller and a custom configured notebook from the HP site (even with the same specs).

I believe that is a plug in module that should not void your warranty. I can get the part number for you if you are interested????

The service manual is readily found on their website as well. Just go to the support section for the NC8430.

That manual ought to cover the installation of a BT module as well as give the parts needed.
