The hardwired GigE port on my nc8430 shows as removable.
(Ref. "Safely remove hardware" button on toolbar)
This port is built into the notebook and is NOT physically removable.

Occasionally, when I suspend/resume, I get errors from this device.
I have tried HP and OEM drivers, and still get the same result.
Is there a tweak I can make to tag this device as non-removable?

Anyone else see this on their machine?

I believe it has to do with a power saving feature on the card. The idea is to shut down the NIC when it detects there is no ethernet cable plugged in.

I haven't see errors during suspend and resume but I don't do that much under windows. What errors are you getting?

    Hi,

I have a nc6400 and it has the broadcom gigabit ethernet controller too. I do see that the controller is a removable device, but it hasn't caused any problems with my notebook.

Event viewer does show a warning with the ethernet controller. It says:

Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet: The network link is down. Check to make sure the network cable is properly connected.

It doesn't affect the standby or hibernation and my notebook resumes fine. The only quirky thing i do notice is that when running on battery the ethernet controller is not shown in device manager. Not a big thing with me, as i use wireless on this notebook.
