Well, looks like that review might have to wait! Either it is because of the CPU or the HDD@7200RPM, but I was informed today that my order might now be shipped before 9/26!

    I was originally promised a 9/17 ship date...oh well.

What really hurts is that I had to call in about something else, and that is when I found out. they've known for two days and never contacted me nor updated the order details.

if the NVIDIA 7700 is widespread by the time this order is shipped, I might consider cancelling...i don't like to pay for hardware that is outdated before it ships.

It's the CPU. That hard drive is commodity. I'm still waiting on mine to ship, and I know for a fact I'm first in line at Powernotebooks for this CPU ;)

seems like there is an upside though...i'm second in line for getting a nc8430. all they have to do is make TWO notebook kits and i'm good...oh boy this wait is going to be hard...

The X1600 is still a good GPU, and even though one notebook has been released with the 7700, doesnt mean it will be widespread a week or so from now.

Okay night 2004, count to ten and take a deep breath. It is going to be okay. You will get your laptop soon. I know this wait is grueling but you will be oh so glad when it finally comes.

    Useless posts are fun!

Seriously though, you'll enjoy it. When I first got mine, all I did was run around and panic in happiness for 10 minutes. I was like OMG, OMG, OMG!

Turning it on is the best part. You hear a LOUD rush of fans (they're quite loud on startup) and the whole vicinity will reek of new computer for 2 days. It's a very satisfying smell.

...right now i'm trying to find out if that is the reason for delay. surely someone at hp can tell me.

if it's the CPU, i'll downgrade or upgrade to a T7200 or T7600
if it is the hard drive, i'll switch to a different one, either 100@5400 or 80@7200...
if it is something else, i'm screwed and i'll be waiting for a while.

I ordered my nc8430 yesterday with overnight shipping from costcentral.com and I got it about an hour ago. All I have to say is wow, it's even better than I expected. Keyboard is great, screen is amazing, so far everything is perfect. Some people complained about the plain look of it, but the black layout and lid looks very nice to me. When I took it out of the box, I was so surprised at how light it was. I'm very happy =)

well...it looks like the laptop MIGHT ship on time anyway. i'm seeing on the status page that it left Tennessee tonight. which means i might see it tomorrow. however, the extra 1GB DIMM might indeed be delayed a little while.

I just got an e-mail today saying that my nc8430 might not ship on time (ordered on the 16th, they gave a date of the 21st (today) to ship). What sucks is that I got the docking station yesterday morning and I've just been staring at it for almost two days.

    that was how I felt!

looking at your configuration, i really have to doubt that it'll be late. Mine came on time despite my 7200RPM hard drive!

this thing is beautiful! if you're willing to sacrifice resolution and HDR you can almost max out every other setting in Oblivion! 1024x768 really isn't bad, and Bloom is fine too!
