Hello dear ALL.
I bought stuff 1 month ago with such config:
Core 2Duo 7200
1 Gb memory
HDD 80 Gb 5400
Out of the box XP
I control CPU|Video setups and monitor temperature by Notebook Hardware Control.
My problems:
1) When I'm playing in NFS: MostWanted or in Fear - the temperature is more than 80 C. When it reach 90 - shutdown sequence are running (It's very frequent situation for FEAR). Cooler works in such moment as small turbine. Is it normal situation for nc8430?
2) sometimes I hear very annoying "ZZZZZZZ" near border of monitor - it's not a sound from cooler or from any movable parts in notebook - it's just some creak of plastic - to delete this sound I have to press serveral times on right bottom part of monitor's frame and the sound get lost. Several day s ago I found interseting dependency - I switched off luminance sensor by shortkeys and sound get lost too. I think I have to answer HP service about this deffect - but I'm afraid about their reaction. I cannot give them my work laptop for weeks. Does (did) anyone have the same problem?

1) No...I've never topped 80C gaming or not so 90+ is bad. I'd look to see if the vent is blocked and make sure the fan is running. If both are okay, then the heatsink is probably messed up and HP will have to fix it.
2) Nope...that's not normal either. HP will probably need to replace the screen too. I can't find it right now, but there was at least one other thread detailing this problem so you aren't alone. -
The problem has been found - I took laptop to service and they describe the problem: the noise produced by low-quality inverter in high-frequency transistor. And for solving the problem !!!display!!! must be replaced with new one. And it's not so fast as I want - from one to 3 weeks.
As service engineer said - it's common problem for such products, my lapy was produced in China... -
Faraon,
I had the same problem with my screen after I first received my nc8430 back in October. It took until mid-to-late January to resolve the issue after multiple shipments back and forth between their repair center. After reading up regarding similar issues, I suspected the reason above, but when I'd describe these things to the support center at HP I basically got nowhere and the issue was eventually resolved by replacing the entire unit. FWIW, there was an interesting article in the IEEE Spectrum 6 months to 1 year or so ago about the effect counterfeit parts were having on consumer electronics like these. Interesting to read about -- not so fun to experience first-hand ...
