Hello,
Just wanted to see if anyone else had this issue; it seems to be a little bit different than some of the other noises here. After about a week of using my notebook, a buzzing sound began to occasionally come from the frame surrounding the screen very close to the right hinge. I can get rid of it for a while by shifting the screen tilt or sometimes by adjusting the backlight level; however, it always seems to come back. If anyone has seen this problem before and knows of a way to fix it other than sending the unit in, I'd appreciate it -- I'm already using it quite heavily for work and it woudl be difficult to go without for even a day or two ...
Thanks!
Regards,...

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM (on my macbook)!!! it turns out the bearing on the CPU fan is faulty! but the adjusting the backlight doesn't seems to do it for me... in some cases (such as bad firmware/electronic/wiring) could cause that... but that is rare. if i were to bet.. i bet on the CPU fan... bcoz you said that it'll gone if you change the screen tilt. thats is the same on mine. feel if the screen is vibrating when the buzzing noise is heard.
edit: if indeed the screen vibrate, i have no doubt that there is some mechanical problem with the machine. there is a very good change that it is indeed the cpu fan. -
Hmmm ... I'm not sure that is the problem. It sounds very similar, but my screen is not vibrating, and I can definitely hear a difference depending on the the brightness level of the backlight. I think I'll end up talking to the service folks at HP to see if I can get it sent in for repairs. Should've expected this, though ... none of the last three computing devices I've purchased over the last 4 years -- desktop, PDA, and laptop -- have worked properly out of the box. Repairs and/or replacement were required on each one. At least I'll get to find out if the support for HP's business class machines is decent.

Not many replies, but those of you who've had similar issues might be interested in the 'follow-thru'. I called HP support and they agreed to replace the laptop as soon as I described the problem to them. There was some sort of confusion regarding the warranty as I purchased from a reseller -- the start date on the warranty was about 1 1/2 months prior to my purchase date. They asked me to provide proof of purchase so they could adjust the warranty start date appropriately and said they'd handle the replacement from there ...
