I was able to swap out the original Intel T2500 (Core Duo - Yonah") with a T7600 (Core 2 Duo - "Merom") in this laptop just now. I updated to the latest BIOS and swapped the processors. Everything went perfect and the whole swap took about 15 minutes.

I'm running Vista Business on the notebook (it's a test machine for work). The performance score went from 4.7 to 5.2 with the processor swap. It does seem to boot faster by a small margin and the menus and doing anything in Vista now seems "snappier" with the new processor. The Arctic Silver 5 replacing the grease HP put on the graphics and processor at the factory helped. Fan doesn't seem to spin up as much (also, the processor runs cooler - so they say).

I also swapped out the 1GB (2x512MB) PC2-4200 DDR2 (533Mhz) with 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-5300 DDR2 (667MHz). And I also swapped the Fujitsu 80GB 5400RPM SATA HDD with a Seagate 7200.1, 100GB 7200RPM SATA HDD. Both of these were done last week, so the above increase in performance is strickly for the processor swap and not these components.

Worth the money? Processor, maybe not. Going from a 2.0GHz Core to a 2.33GHz Core 2 might not be worth the price tag. If you have the slower T2300 then yes. Or if you want to go from Core Solo, then yes.

Memory and HDD upgrades are definitely worth it. They showed better "bang for the buck" with Vista.

I have pictures of the swap, but they're still on my digital camera. I'll post them to this thread if there are enough requests.

The hard drive effects boot time more than the CPU. Please do post pics.

i know your only trying to help, but your replies are almost always off track. your read need to read people's post before your answer. Many times in the past you have posted replies to posts that i have made that have been so far off track to what i was asking or writing about to make me think you just don't read the post at all, or just don't understand them.
I'm sorry if i'm coming off harsh, i know that your are only trying to be helpful, but your post really do get in the way.

    Hi
First of all hello to all the forumer's I'm a new member and I am a "poor french person" so my grammar and orthograph might not be excellent so please accept my appologies...........

I've just done what you have done last year!! I own a nc8430.......It was a T5600 ([email protected] Ghz, 2*1 Mo cache) and now it is a T7600 (C2D@2,33 Ghz, 2*2 Mo cache). The swapp did not take long time (about 15 minutes) and the new performances are amazing. So All is OK?..............Nearly yes but Iam a little anxious with the temperatures............
core 1&2 (core temp V0.954) about 80° Celsius with 100% cpu usage (I am a folder..)
Mother Board about 45°Celsius (Speed fan 4.32)
    What are or was your??
    Thank you for your reply

    Reglyss

I know of several classmates who have the same laptop as I do that would be highly interested in the CPU upgrade, just to get 64-bit support. I'll have to tell them about this once more info gets posted here.
