I finally placed the order. Thanks to everyone here who gave input about their nc8430 so I could make an informed decision.

    Integrated Bluetooth Module

9x5 Next Business-Day On-site Coverage for Notebooks w/Off-site Accidental Damage Protection Service, 3 yrs - Electronic

HP Docking Station with 120W Smart Adapter

Yes, I just ordered from the HP site. So what's a best case scenario that I might have it - a month? Longer? I'm okay with waiting as long as the old Sony holds together until the new machine gets here. Good thing I'm a touch typist as 12 keys have no writing left on them at all.

Prolly should have ordered it from a reseller, I got mine for 1600 with everything the same except its 80 HD and 1gig ram. But it has a 2ghz Core duo. So for 140 more you could but 2gig of ram and install it.

Also did you get the WSXGA+? That resolution fits the screen perfectly.

Thanks claudione314. I'm trying to not get excited yet as I know that I'm going to have to wait a while.

Biznatch. I got too frustrated looking for resellers that had just what I wanted. I didn't want the WSXGA. I really only wanted XGA but I can deal with the WXGA which is what I got. T2400 is fine with me and I needed the 100gig but only wanted the 5400rpm (heat a big issue with me) And I don't do installs of anything in my computers. :) I don't mind paying for having it come to me all ready to go to work. I know I'm lucky though in that I wasn't constrained by a tight budget.

nice setup there, but if I may: was there any particular reason you didn't get a Core 2 Duo machine? the prices are about the same, if not identical.

anyway, with regards to shipping...the laptop i orded in my signature from HP was ordered on 9/12 and shipped either yesterday or will ship on Monday. i don't think you'll be waiting that long at all.

Good question but I just didn't need the extra speed which would likely generate extra heat (the verdict is still out and I can't wait because the current machine is near death) Any little thing I can do to help with the heat to keep fans from blasting at me is good in my book. (and yes, I use a cooling pad). I replace laptops every 2 years so I'll get the new toy the next time around.
