I am getting QLBCTRL.EXE error during shutdown. I have to end it every time. I figured it out as HP quicklaunch buttons program. I tried reinstalling it, still the problem persists.

    What should I do

One more small issue is with DVD drive. Some times it is not reading cds and dvds. I have to reinsert, then it works. Some times the slot is not coming out when I press the button. I have to press it two, three times to come out. Not the major one, but still a problem.

    Any suggestions...

Uninstall it, run a registry cleaner, and reinstall the new version (as per vassil_98's suggestion). Reboot in between each step.

It is a new laptop. So I restored it to original setting. No problems with QLBCTRL.exe . Had installed firefox2, zonealarm, spybot, spyblaster, spyguard, AVG, ccleaner and adaware. Updated windows and firefox. No problems with QLBCTRL.exe when turning off the laptop.

The problem arises after updating the antivirus etc software. After successfully updating the antivirus etc software when i turn the laptop off the problem with QLBCTRL.exe appears.

To me the antivirus etc software is more important than QLBCTRL.exe which is for the hot keys. I happy to uninstall it. Just would be nice to know the cause of the problem.

Since the problem occurs using xyz anti-virus... you should contact them to make out a bug report on it. See if they can help you, see if it has been reported already.

If nothing else contact them so the problem doesn't drive someone else crazy that hasn't found the root of the problem (as you have), or "needs" the hotkeys and is having the same problem.

Several years ago I ran into something of the same. Forget the details, but it was a conflict between some (Norton?) software and something else. (duh).. that occured after a update of somekind if memory serves me right.

I would start up the laptop with all non-MS services (not safe mode) + the QuickLaunch program. Does it happen then?

If not, continue to activate things one or two services at a time to see what the exact problem is. My guess is that you'll have a process name within an hour.

Also, as others have pointed out: it might be the AV. Turn it on first, and see what happens.

    HP Pavilion laptop DV6190EU -
I installed SpyGuard 2 days ago and this qlbctrl.exe not closing down problems started. When I tried to close down the pc, this program would not close nor would it respond on attempted closure.
Have uninstalled SpyGuard and all is well again.
Hope this is of assistance to someone
