    Hi guys,

On a very bad evening I clicked on a suspicious link while browsing which installed a virus on my notebook nc8430. I have nod32 running, which notified me about the attack, by the time I think the virus got installed into my computer.

From then onwards, everything got disabled run command, all programs, control panel etc., C drive and HP recovery drive got disappeared from my computer. Somehow I managed to burn my data on to discs, as the computer won't recognize usb sticks also.

Then I wanted to restore my computer to factory settings. I pressed F11, But the computer turns off after 2 mins of black screen. When I bought the computer I tried to make recovery discs, but somehow I was unable to do it. Later I burnt the the HP recovery drive as an image using Drive Image XML software. I thought of burning this image on to optical disc and use it for recovery but I am afraid as I am noob at computer stuff. Hence I contacted HP support for recovery discs, hopefully I will get them by tomorrow.

Now, my question-Do the HP recovery discs require the recovery drive on my computer to be functional?

Otherwise, I have a retail XP prof CD with me. Will I get in to trouble by using this for complete reinstall (I mean with drivers and stuff like that). If not, please suggest me how to do this?

I am afraid Is it really possible to do any of the above if my complete hard disk got corrupted because of the virus... or Am I really thinking too much..

    Suggest me something
    Thank u

No the recovery discs are standalone.

The recovery drive is just there as a built-in recovery solution

    They are/do the same thing.
