ok I went to hps website and configured both of these first off its weird but certain options for the compaq are cheaper then the hp and certain options for the hp were more then the compaq. my main questions are these, are the 2 computers that different and one other thing that pissed me off is that the hp dv5000z does not have the dedicated xpress 200m anymore but the compaq DOES? can anybody figuere out why hp dropped it.

Both these models are being phased out in favor of the V6000z and the dv6000z. So, being in the fag end of their life cycle some options might not be available due to lack of supply/demand. They also play around with the options quite a bit. Sometimes the options on HP are cheaper and sometimes they offer them on the Compaq. But hardware wise both HP & Compaq are essentially the same.

I dont game much, but I did try NFS MW demo and it ran it pretty well. Good details and no choppyness. I would assume it shouldnt have any issues with GTA. It is on more or less on par with the ATi X1100, but still far away from any true dedicated GPU. Consider the dv2000t or the dv6000z with the Go7200 if you need a little bit more graphics power.
