    im a film major looking to get a new laptop for editing. i've looked at the dv6000t and the dv2000t and they both seem enticing.

    if anybody does the same kinda thing, on premiere, vegas, or avid, which one do you use or recommend?

    dv2000t=more portable, and i might opt for an external monitor for use at home, but not sure if there are advantages to getting the 6000t besides screen size (and stronger graphics card, but i never game...will the nVidia in the 2000t be enough for vista)?

    thanks =)

    The resolution on the machines is the same so you will see the same thing only a little more packed on the dv2000. I personally like 14" or under for portability.

    Honestly, tough call. I debated for quite a while too before going with the dv2000t for portability. As you mentioned, the graphics card isn't nearly as fast, but most video editing programs are much more processor and memory hungry than graphics card hungry. If anything, they use WMV acceleration or color acceleration where applicable. I use Premiere 2.0 on my dv2000t and it runs great. Obviously you'll want a fast dual-core processor and plenty of memory, but, other than that, choose whichever system "feels" better to use for you.

    For your second question, the GeForce Go 7200 works beautifully with Vista -- make sure whichever video editing app you use is compatible before upgrading though!

    Also, I would recommend getting a higher-res external monitor with whichever system you go with. Long video editing sessions on notebook screens at 1280x800 resolution can give you a headache. On a nice 20/21" LCD, it's a much more pleasant experience. And for HDV editing (or any other high-def editing), a 23/24" LCD is ideal for full resolution previews.

    Hope that helps.
