hi,
i've been having issues with my dv6000t burner literally since day one - it can't read ceratin cds, while reads other stuff - by now it's almost half of my data cds, which are read fine on my other laptop and desktop. i've been dealing with HP's customer serivce since second day of ownership on the phone and chat -absolute annoynance, it took them few days to finally agree to send replacement, and now it's past the delivery date and after 2 chats and 2 phone calls none of them knows what's the status of the part and they keep repeating me same BS. i'm concerned because if the replacement doesn't work i plan on returning the laptop and if i don't get my replacement part on time, it'll be past 21 days to return the laptop. does anyone know how to contact HP service people the the STATES as opposed to India - i mean they're polite and all but completely useless and contradict each other every time i talk to them. or if someone knows any other way ... any help would be appreciated.

Hate to say it, but the above is a perfect example of why dealing with HP direct is a waste of time. There is no excuse for being two days into ownership and getting the run around.
If you were to read thru the dv8000 keyboard thread that is linked to below within the below link you will find that your experiance is the norm when dealing with HP.... at least now you're within your return window.... After that passes you will be at the mercy of HP..
Tell them that you are within your 21-day return window and are demanding the return of your money.... regardless of the status of the replacement unit.
What I'd do is return the unit ASAP, Get the money credited back to your credit card and consider buying thru a vendor that offers a NO-HASSLE return policy. (180-days).

PS: There may be other vendors that offer an extended return window. If you do find such a vendor, please post the details within that thread.
Big plus to such being an extended return window will at least give you protection for at least 6 months from having to deal with HP directly...
One more thing, within the above thread are a bunch of tech tips... besides the buying advice.... Within that thread is mention of cd/dvd drives going into PIO mode which may be the cause of your problem.
