    To install the Intel drivers:
    - For me the prompt to install the Intel ICH7 Family drivers didn't show itself, so I had to do it manually
    - Do the setup using sp32555 (Intel Chipset Installation Utility for ICH7)

I have an unknown driver and have tried installing this driver using sp32555 a dozen times with no success.

I have the 6000t series as well. I bought it 3 months ago with Vista pre-installed, but it had way too much junk in it, so I used a friends Vista Retail disc, formatted the drive and did a clean install of Vista using the HP OEM key on the tag on the bottom of the laptop, and it worked just fine. I had to call Microsoft and get the activation code but that's not a big deal. When I re-installed a few days ago, I didn't have to activate since I used the hidden OEM key (plus the digital license and script files) and it worked fine.

The only driver I had to install was the webcam driver for Vista (still acts a bit weird though). Windows Update took care of everything except the QuickPlay Buttons hardware feature which I don't care about since it doesn't work the same in Vista as it did in XP. The mute button didn't change colours at first, but once I added the optional update for the sound driver, it worked fine. The pause, play, stop, volume, etc. buttons all work as expected in Windows Media Player or Center, and I can even tap the Q or DVD button to turn on the laptop.

I'm quite happy with the clean install.

If the unknown device is listed under Device Manager, Details tab, Hardware IDs as "ACPI\HPQ0006", then it's the QuickPlay feature which is not necessary and Vista runs just fine without it.

If it's something else, please post the Hardware ID and maybe someone can figure it out.

If you decide to do a clean install of Vista and want to make it easy to activate it, first backup the two license files and get the Magical Jelly Bean program - read this thread:
