need help reinstalling windows 7

Hello. I received my HP DV6T quad edition laptop today and tried to follow this guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-compaq/432564-hp-laptop-out-box-guide-2-0-windows-7-a.html.

I made recovery disks and a Windows 7 disk, following the instruction here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html

I ran into problems when I tried to reinstall Windows using the disk I created. Near completing the installation, I get an error that says "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware". i tried installing again and i get the same error in the exact same place.

My laptop's configuration that i bought was:

• No additional security software
• 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery - Up to 6.0 hours of battery life +++

• HP TrueVision HD Webcam
• 802.11b/g/n WLAN
• Standard Keyboard

I tried looking online and it seems that other people have gotten the same error as me when trying to install windows. i couldn't find any solution that worked. can anyone help me please? i really want to use this laptop

 

I have just had this exact same problem with my Sony Vaio. To cut a long story short it appears there are a few common causes.

1. The install CD does not include SP1 and or is not a Retail version. I got a image here Download Retail Windows 7 ISO from Official Website | Windows7hacker but you will still need your VALID License Code and make sure to download the one including SP1

2. The BIOS has the drive setup as Raid / Sata / IDE / AHCI (change the setting until it installs)

3. The Computer requires that you install the SATA / AHCI Driver at the point in setup where you select the place to install windows (usually the intel rapid storage management ).

4. The DIsc or Downloaded ISO is Damaged / Corrupted

5. You are attempting to install using a Virtual CD Drive from a USB Stick

6. You are installing via a USB Stick and have not removed it just before the first reboot (this was my cause)

7. New Hard Disk is Advanced Format (should have AF logo on it) and BIOS doesn't support it.

8. Remove or disable all drives except the install source and installation drive from BIOS if Possible.

9. Memory - try dropping it down to the lowest possible configuration. In your case probably 2GB.

10. Faulty Motherboard or Graphics Card (unlikely here)

11. Update to Latest BIOS if all else fails.

To both users let's get this straight if you want factory recovery you will need the factory restore cd/dvd not the downloaded windows7. That versions doesn't include specific drivers and software that comes for each of your laptops. Do either one of you have the factory restore cd/dvd? If not might be a good time to order them and restore your laptop back to factory installs including the drivers.

@mansoo0609- that version of windows7 isn't your factory or have your drivers that is something you will need to get from the HP site. Also when you created hp recovery cd/dvd that will have windows 7 on there already to bootup and recover to factory install. Also the download version on here most likely unless you get windows 7 pro and match to windows 7 pro your registation should work but if you get windows 7 pro and download windows 7 ultimate and thinking you can get a higher version that won't work you will have to download the matching O/S to your registration O/S for the installation to work. As I told the second poster unless your O/S is sp1 you will have to reboot to factory installation and then download the sp1 and install and update. There isn't a way around this unless your factory install had Sp1 version on it.

@jamesmcuk- You need to post in the correct forum as this deals with HP not Sony laptop there are forum for each products. What your trying to do isn't the same as the OP posted and as I said to the OP you will have to use the factory install recovery cd/dvd to get your drivers install along with the factory install that originally came with the laptop. That way you can see if there were any problems with your computer or O/S. Also unless your O/S was sp1 of which it wasn't all you have to do is download the Sp1 package after the restore and install and then update. Unless your factory recover cd/dvd had Sp1 you will have to download and install it.

 

I have gotten the same problem when trying to install windows from recovery media. I think lappy manufacturers really want you to pay for that recovery media! You can always try and find windows installations elsewhere. I prefer booting from a USB stick. That always seems to give the best results.

Why are you trying to reinstall win 7, on a pc that came with win 7?

 

To get rid of bloatware, of course!
