I have been searching a while for a notebook with the features that I want. Radeon 9600, 2.8ghz, 512mb, portability, and good battery life. Looks like the zx5000 is exactly what I am looking for.

Now, do I really need the 15.4" vs the 15"? Everything I do now is in 1024x768. Reason I ask is that I read somewhere that the wide screens are brighter and/or sharper. Can someone explain which is better. Also, the people that do have the zx5000, are there any major negatives or annoyances with the laptop?

    Thanks for the help.

On a side note, I have been on the zd7000forums and they got lots of great info, wish there was a site like that for the zx5000.

I have the zx5000 with pretty much the same specs as you are looking for. I have the 15.4" screen and I love it. I play games like counter-strike and splinter cell and the work great. counter-strike in steam even has a widescreen mode you can select and it works great. I can get 3.5+ hours with the wireless turned on and just diming the screen some to save no power. Of course if you are playing games this time will drop drastically. Overall I think its a great machine.

I enjoy the widescreen and think all notebooks will have widescreens in the next few years, with the exception of a handfull of niche products. Which one you get is personal preference, but I wouldn't do anything but wide.

I've had my zx5000 for two weeks now, and I love it.

I do think that the extra .4" does make quite a difference. I have the 1280 x 800 screen and think it's a big improvement over my old laptop which ran at 1024 x 768.

I haven't found any major annoyances with the zx5000, except having to uninstall all of the "free software" HP loaded the thing up with!

    Hope this helps!

I've got the zx5000 with the basic 15.4" screen. I didn't really notice a huge difference between them, so I thought the money wasn't worth it. But the extra size is. Who says size doesn't matter
