    Hello,

I bought a presario 1510US laptop from a guy locally. it didn't come w/ a hard drive so I figured I could buy a set of recovery disks from support, but after speaking with them today, they said that they don't sell these anymore so I'm stuck. They actually told me to inquire with Compusa, radioshack but i doubt they would have either. I don't really want to shell out $90 for an OS (xp home) that my laptop is entitled to.
so i'm wondering if anyone here have this model and is willing to burn me a copy of the XP Home OS recovery disk. will pay you $20 for your trouble.
I have the COA, and cd key sticker on my laptop to proove that i'm not just asking for a pirated copy.

    thank you in advance!
    - Sammy

I might be wrong about this, but this is what Compaq AND Microsoft told me.

The product key they give you on the back of the laptop is a SLP (System Locked Preinstallation) key. It will only work with the original XP Install CD that shipped with the computer. In a sense, it is "tied" to that CD. It is also tied to the motherboard's BIOS, but that shouldn't be a problem for you.

I tried using this key while installing from a different XP CD (lost original) but it would not work. I ended up having to go and buy XP all over again, because Compaq said they couldn't provide me with another CD that would work with my product key, and Microsoft couldn't help me either.

Maybe a recovery will work for you, but for my particular problem it didn't fix anything. I thought I could just re-install using my old key, but I didn't have the original CD so I had to buy it all over again.
