This dv2200CTO came with Vista loaded but Vista is now erased and I loaded WinXP to replace it. After installing WinXP the Windows Device Manager (in Control Panel) showed YELLOW QUESTION MARK icons for many of the devices, however I resolved many of those by downloading drivers from HP.
MY PROBLEM: 'Audio Device on Hi Definition Audio Bus' still has a YELLOW QUESTION MARK icon - therefore no driver installed.

The HP site has 2 audio downloads which I tried:
    1) Conexant High Definition Audio Driver
    and
    2) Microsoft UAA Bus driver for Hi Definitioh Audio

When I run the installer file for the Conexant driver it gives an error message that says: DRIVER INITIALIZATION FAILED: THERE IS NO MEDIA DEVICE FOR THIS DRIVER.

The Microsoft UAA driver installer doesn't give a failure message but neither does it fix the YELLOW QUESTION MARK on the Audio Device.

MY QUESTION: how do I identify the audio hardware device so I can find the driver for it. The only 2 drivers listed don't fix the YELLOW QUESTION MARK. I need the right driver for this unidentified hardware.

Please note, the YELLOW QUESTION MARK has a DETAILS tab that lists a 'device instance ID' :
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30B2&REV_1001\ etc.

If I knew how to decode the 'device instance ID' it might identify the audio hardware device. Another possible clue is in the BIOS setup screen it identifies the SYSTEM BOARD ID = 30B2. Maybe there is a way to determine the audio hardware based on the system board ID.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all the help so far.
