I have the same exact laptop (bought it in black friday-staples, see sig), and i'm also planning on downgrading to xp once i get back home and find my CD.
Idk, but the C715nr is the same as the c715US, maybe that'll work. On the screen it says Persario C700, maybe look there. You can find the intel chipset driver for X3100 here -

Any luck with finding XP drivers for the C715NR ? I have the same problem and am having no luck.
Thanks in advance. -
hi c715! i just did a quick fix this way...
download the vista drivers, unpack. go to the setup info files (INF if am not mistaken). look for the device ID of the unknown device under hardware manager, locate the same device ID in the INF file, remove all the characters that come after the device ID in the INF file save then update driver it will work... -
I finally got the Audio to work with Windows XP, along with everything else for My Laptop ( COMPAQ PRESARIO C715NR). It took me a good 3 hours right till 3am. I don't remember what order I did this in, but heres what i did.
1. I downloaded and installed 2 HotFixes, I don't know if both are needed but at 3 a.m. I didn't care. The two are:
kb83221
kb835221_srv03
After I rebooted It found new hardware which I proceeded to install.
If for some reason this does not work I might be able to get the files off the Laptop and zip em and upload them somewhere, or i can email em.
Everything now works perfect for me, thank god. -
I uploaded the actual files installed for the audio.
