These seem pretty similar. Anybody have the new dv5t yet? How does it compare to the dm4t in terms of build quality, screen brightness, etc.

I think the big difference is the DV5t doesn't have an option for discrete graphics (the 5450 or whatever the dm4t has)

Build quality and screen brightness will probably be very very similar. I think the main differences between the two are size, battery life, and BluRay.

the Aluminum/magnesium construction on the dm4 (from what I know it is similar to the dm3 in this respect) would be the biggest difference I could think of. Also, as far as I know, the dm4 is ODM'd by Flextronics, whereas the dv5 is most likely a Quanta unit. I like flextronics but thats just me. All the consumer stuff that Flextronics has done for HP over the past 2 years (dv2, dm3 and now the dm4) has had decent build quality and typically very good fit and finish. Quanta is still the biggest ODM (Origional Design Manufacturer, the company that actually builds, assembles and quite possibly designs) for notebooks. I have seen some really well put together units by quanta, but I have also seen crap. Not to say that flextronics is perfect but I would probably go for a dm4.
