    Hi,

I just purchased HP 6700se laptop one week ago. You can see configuration below.

I am using firefox and sometime IE but whenever I load any page, CPU utilization for firefox or IE goes to around 50% and it is causing CPU fan to activate every time, which is very noisy. so, everytime I load any page, CPU fan starts for few seconds and stops again, which is really annoying.

    Any comments?

    Thanks,
    Sam

yea, i have the same laptop with a 250GB hard drive. Scrolling does cause a spike in the cpu usage. I think the temperature sensor that activates the fans are a little too sensitive. It should cool the cpu down a few degrees instead of one degree cooler, which can lead to the fan turning on and off too often.

I already have F.45 bios and I disabled CPU C4 option but it didn't help much.
CPU fan noise is very annoying and I don't think I want to hear that everytime I load any website.

Please provide any comments or help. I will return this laptop unless I find any solution.

    Thanks,
    Sam

Yea, I find that the noise is bothersome as well. Every time I scroll up or down on a webpage, the fan kicks in for 30 seconds, turns off for 30 seconds and starts up again after that. Trying to disable c4 and switching to power saver doesn't help much either. I might actually return my dv6700tse as well. Also do you notice that your screen has a really high response time? My dv6700 has a Samsung 25ms response time LCD and scrolling down pages, you can see ghosting and tearing.

    Hi DolphinAMD,

I guess, I have found the reason for this frequent fan starting and stopping. It looks like there was an issue with fan continuously running in some previous version of BIOS and now they changed it and it starts and stops too often but does not run it continuously.

If you are running on battery and on power saver mode, you will find fan is not starting and stopping too often. But if your laptop is plugged in and you are still running on power saver mode, your fan will start and stop too often as usual.

You will find answer to this behavior in advance setting of "power option". Check default values of "processor power management" for different options and you will understand it.

I have changed "max power state" value to 70% for "balanced" option and now I don't have fan issue.

Let me know if this helps you anyway. I am not aware of any screen issue as I don't have any external monitor.

My new DV6700t suffers the same fan noise problem.

First, they pick a crappy noisy fan to begin with. (even at low speed)
Second, they wrote a firmware that makes the fan goes on all the time.

HP, please listen to your user! DV6700t is not a 14" laptop, your engineers should be able to do a better job on heat, fan, and noise management.

Just to add another data point I too just purchased a dv6700 and am stunned by the fan noise. It goes between off and full blast (very loud) at about 20-30 second intervals. It does not make any sense that there is no control over the fan speed. I would prefer a constant slow speed to the annoying switch between silent and very loud.

I tried speedfan and hwmonitor but neither can detect a fan to control. There are no settings in the BIOS to control this.

I thought my previous laptop had a noisy fan but it is nothing compared to the dv6700. I think I will return it while I still can, it sounds like HP screwed up this model and is not doing anything to fix it.

This is very disappointing to hear. I have a dv6700t SE on order, just shipped from Shanghai, and I am not looking forward to this.

I think they have a wonderful design compared to dell except this fan noise problem...should i say internal heat transfer design problem....

Why can't HP give us the freedom to lower the rpm's or have it reach a higher threshold like 75C?

try changing the power settings as I mentioned in my post in this thread above and see if you can achieve something acceptable to you.
I started this post and mine seems to be acceptable now.

On a desktop, you can easily set the temp thresholds in the BIOS. 75C is hot, but not enough to do damage.

I have a 6700t and don't seem to have this problem. The fan comes on the lowest setting when I'm viewing a web page with a lot of flash animations or ones with a lot of animated gifs, but it often remains quiet when viewing regular pages.

I had an issue too with a loud fan. I contacted tech support and they told me to update my BIOS. I did and now it is constantly running. It started to make this harsh sound. I think it is running to hard or starting to grate against something. I am afraid to send it back to HP. I've heard horror stories of notebooks taking months to be sent back or them being damaged, but I want to have my notebook working properly. I even bought an external notebook cooler, but the fan is still always running.
