Do the newest dv6t/z still run as hot as the older models? I know for a while the laptop would overheat while stressed unless elevated and even then temps were above average.

My dv6z has no problems. Processor idles in the mid 30s and ranges from there to the mid 40s under normal use and maxes out under 70. The only part of the case that gets warm is the left palm rest and that is only under heavy load and it is still only warm, not hot.

First, if you don't use a cooling pad for pretty much any and all usage beyond web browsing and word processing, you'd better be using the computer in a 60 degree room. It's not that the computer shouldn't be keeping itself cool- but better ventilation is only going to extend the life of the hardware.

Second, I haven't noticed any temperatures out of the ordinary, and I have the i7- which is notorious for being a shade on the warm side (to put it mildly). The left side of the computer is warm to the touch under load, but never uncomfortably so, even during gaming. I haven't had the computer long enough to comment with any authority on shutdowns and similar serious problems, but I am unaware of any such issues on either the Intel or AMD-based models.

Third, for what it's worth, the AMD models do run a bit cooler.

Mine runs very cool under light usage. The CPU is seeing temps in the 30s and even 20s right now. Highest I've seen under light useage is mid 40s. I haven't really stressed it, though. The most intense thing I've done is play TF2 (high settings, native res, 2xAA) for 45 minutes, which raised both the CPU and GPU to 80C. The left palmrest also gets warm while the 5650 is active and stressed, but not too bad as long as the vents aren't blocked.

temps are decent. I have the Intel i7 quadcore in mine and the CPU core temps avg in the high 50s/low 60s while web browsing.

mid to high 70s when gaming.

the laptop cant breathe on surfaces like beds. It made a 20C difference when I put a plastic/metal mousepad under my laptop rather than just letting it sit on my bed. During gaming the temps would go up to the high 90's when it was just sitting on the bed!
