    hey guys,

not sure if this is the right subforum to post on but i didn't see one for tech support or anything so i was hoping someone could help me out.

i bought an hp dv6t-7000 from HP a few weeks ago and received it on june 7th. it's an i7 quad core processor with a GT 650M, 8 GB ram and a 160 gb SSD.

i was using it for about a week and i never really heard the fan but these last 2 days when i use it i can noticeably hear it. it's not loud or anything or really distracting, but the fact that it's there is a little unnerving. the problem is i dont remember how loud it was when i initially started using it but i'm guessing it wasn't like this. or maybe it was and i'm forgetting.

my question is: is this normal? i'm not using it for any intensive tasks (just web-surfing, occasional youtube videos; max 2 tabs open in google chrome) so i figured it would be "silent" but maybe no laptops are silent?

    thanks!

Post in the HP subforum. This isn't the right place.
It isn't that unusual for fans to be on, even when on idle.

You know what I had the same issue also. I notice when windows automatic update upgrade net framework 3.5 , my fan became really loud but when I uninstalled it went away. Then I upgrade net framework 4.0 for a software I was using same thing really loud. Even when I uninstalled it, it was still loud and spinning really fast. so I had to restore the computer before I install the net framework.
    so far a little quieter.

That depends on how much air flow you give you laptop and where your using it if the air flow is obstructed it will get hot and the fan will speed up laptop aren't like desktop that have a larger air flow laptop are restriced and you must not block the air flow path otherwise it will get hot and the fan will speed up as well to cool it down but if the fan is bad one should RMA it and get it fixed a dead fan is a dead laptop......

That could be just coincidence as well and since there is no history for anyone to really dig into that is harder to know what or why it happened and what is going on.
