    Hello,

My dv9000 is the first laptop ive ever had. Now I got a few questions. Whenever I used my desktop and I was downloading something.. i would turn off the monitor and go to sleep. Now, is this possible with a laptop? Any way to turn the screen off but keep the computer running and downloading? It seems like stand by is the only option but it stops the download. I just feel like im killing the laptop by keeping it running with a screen saver over night? Anyone that can shed some light on this? As you can see im pretty confused.

    Thank you.

You need to go to power options and tell the screen not to turn off when you close the lid. Then close the lid and your computer will keep running. I don't know of any way to actually turn off the screen itself, but there should be little worry, screens last much longer than you'll be using the laptop.

you can choose to turn the screen off after a certain amount of time. what OS are u running? on xp, its right-click on the desktop; then properties; then you'll see "Display Properties" click the "Screen Saver" Tab; under that; click the "Power..." button. from there; you should see a "Turn off monitor" drop down menu. choose how long you want the screen to turn off; then click "OK".

as far as i know; there is no way to turn off the screen with a click of the button, but this kind of program shouldn't be too hard to write. maybe there is some third-party software available; but i just don't see why you bother with one, as the auto-turn-off screen is more convinient.

oh, don't do what "dagamer34" said. you dont want to "... close the lid and your computer will keep running" as this can cause your computer to overheat (as laptop dissipate some of the heat through the keyboard); as well as damage the screen because of the heat.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Maybe this is why my laptop went south recently...
