Right now hp has a buch of rebates and fatwallet that is going to expire on the 31st. I want to order a lpatop before then. I really want to get the r3000z just the video card is crappy. Does anyone know when HP will update their laptops. Like a timeframe, some people are saying by the end of the month. how does everyone think of the zx5000? Is that leakage problem a common problem? Is it really noriceable ?

Well thank you in advance for everyone that replies to this post.

What leakage are you talking about?

We plan on ordering a zx5000 this weekend.

It doesn't look like Hp will be making any changes to their product lines anytime soon. I don't think anything by the end of this month, maybe at year end or early Q1 of 2005. That's when they usually release new models (the big noticable ones).

The ZX5000 is a very nice unit, and it's exactly the same as the R3000 series, just a cosmetic change and different speakers. People seem to be happy with the unit, but I think it's a bit on the big/heavy side. I'd much rather go for a Pentium M system. Better battery life, smaller & lighter and runs cooler.

The leakage problem you're talking about, does that have to do with the LCD? I've read something about this, but don't know exactly what's happening. I've read that the Brightview or was it the TurBrite on Toshiba models, that have an issue where the LCD is brighter on the bottom than on the top. Have never seen it, so can't really comment on it.

first of all, i suggest you have a little more patience waiting for responses...they'll come, but not within an hour every time, sometimes it can take a few days or sometimes the question needs to be restated because it's too specific or nobody has an answer.

Anyway, regarding HP releases. I know Dell will be releasing at least one and maybe a couple of notebooks in October. I don't expect HP or anyone else big to be making any big moves on the release front until late September and October because they would have likely gotten the notebooks out by now to capture the back to school market. They'll wait until late September or October at this point to target the holiday season buyers.

What about new notebooks based around the 90nm Athlon 64's that AMD is shipping to OEMs? There's also the mobile version of the GeForce 6600 coming (when?)... and HP is fairly nVidia-friendly. They'll probably miss back-to-school but there's still Christmas coming up.

They could just slap the 90nm A64's in their current notebooks with a BIOS update. But it sure would be nice to see a 17" widescreen Athlon 64 with Mobile GeForce 6600 (or whatever nVidia will call it)...

I didnt mean actually new models. I really want to buy the r3000z with an AMD 64 37000 processor. They are very fast and cheap. But the video card is really really old and weak. What I meant to ask was, does anyone know when HP will add new options for the video cards to thier notebooks. Right now the best notebook videocard that hp offers is 128mb. Dell already offers 256mb video cards.. But i really dont want to get a dell have heard very bad things about their notebooks. Well if anyone has a time fram please share it with me. Thanks again all.

the light leakage isnt really a big problem, i had that on my Emachine M6809 didnt Bother me. Over all the Brightview is a excellant screen. it beats the Emachine screen into the ground.
