today i did a CLEAN install for the second time ever and it went very smoothly just like the first time. (thank you for your great guide Orev!!)

I went to the hp site and downloaded the most recent drivers for most my hardware and everything seems to be running smoothly. There is one "new" thing though that isnt exactly nice.. i have no idea with which driver it came but i just have to get rid of it or be able to modify its properties.

When i hit the volume up or down key in the quicklaunch area a new "screen" comes up informing just how high or low your current volume is. (CHECK OUT THE SCREENSHOT PROVIDED)

Anyone else have this? how can i disable it or change its properties? any ideas?

    Alex

well in order to turn that on screen display off while keeping the functionality of the buttons I had to disable the startup of the OSD part. Now I just use live onecare which you can easily do it in, but if you don't use that you may have to find it in msconfig.

As a newbie. I'm not sure what you did to remove the OSD. What did you uncheck in startup and not sure what you mean by "onecare"?

They may want to add this procedure to the setup guides.

    Thanks

Assumeing that quicktouch is anything like quicklaunch for the business models, there should be a checkbox labeled "display desktop notifications" (Or something along those lines). Unchecking that box should remove the volume control notification (and all other notifications, also)

"quicktouch" is the software that does this. Uninstall it using the "Programs and Features" control panel and it will go away.

Thank You, We can now watch movies along with Stage6 Videos and adjust the volume without this thing messing up the picture.
Also in the latest version we have. In the list of sounds. The third option lets you mute the sound.
All the buttons still work after we turned off the OSD.

Instead of uninstalling it. Als we did was.

    1 - Start msconfig
2 - Go to the startup Tap
3 - Remove the Checkmark From the Quick Touch On screen Display
    4 - Ok Reboot
5 - Tell windows not to display the Change to startup message anymore.

Make sure you also installed quickplay (QPW) and the quickplay buttons (QLB). You need both of those, in addition to the audio drivers.

the new volume screen is not better. its slow, isn't as one-for-one when you press up or down, and it takes up too much space. check out the thread below to install the microsoft intellitype drivers to get a cleaner look
